Muzium Padi Or Rice Museum in Alor Setar, Kedah.

Muzium Padi Or Rice Museum
One of the places that must be visited in Kedah is Rice Museum. Located about 8 kilometers from town. This museum is the only museum of rice in Malaysia. It displays relevant materials involving rice culture, research and development and technology development of rice.

PEKAN RABU OR WEDNESDAY MARKET IN ALOR SETAR.


Pekan Rabu or Wednesday Market,Alor Setar.

For a sense of the local culture, a trip to this vibrant market in Alor Star is a must. The name Pekan Rabu translates as 'Wednesday Market' however, the market's popularity is such that it now operates throughout the week. Beginning in the early morning and remaining open until midnight, the market is the ideal place to sample local edible delicacies or to pick up some interesting handicrafts.

 MASJID ZAHIR , ALOR SETAR, KEDAH.

MASJID NEGERI OR STATE MOSQUE OF ALOR SETAR.
Also known as Masjid Zahir, this mosque is another significant landmark in Alor Setar and one of the most charming mosques in Malaysia. Built using unique Moorish architecture, the five domes depicts the five pillars of Islam. Officially opened in 1912, this state Mosque is an architectural landmark as it is one of the largest and grandest mosques in Malaysia.

Menara Alor Setar or Alor Setar Tower


The Menara Alor Setar is a 165.5 meter tall tower in Alor Setar, in the state of Kedah, Malaysia. It was built for Telekom Malaysia at a cost of RM40 million  and officially opened to public by the charismatic Malaysia's  fourth  Prime Minister, Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohamad in  14th, August 1997.

BALAI NOBAT ALOR SETAR or NOBAT TOWER ( HALL OF DRUMS)

 Balai Nobat is a ceremonial tower in Alor Setar used to house instruments for playing nobat, the dirge for royal ceremonies. Among the instruments are the serunai, a wind instrument resembling the clarinet; the nafiri, a type of long trumpet; gendang, a drum in the form of a hollow cylinder with parchment stretched over its open sides; and the gong.
The original Balai Nobat was built during the reign of Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Mukarram Shah, who reigned from 1854 to 1879. It had five floors and was constructed of stone and metal. During the renovation in 1906, it was reduced to three storeys. The Balai Nobat is topped with an Islamic-style dome.

 Balai Besar Alor Setar or The Noble Hall of Alor Setar.


Balai Besar, or Great Hall, is a heritage structure in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia. The original structure dates back to the founding of Alor Star in 1735, and was built by Alor Star's founder, Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin (1710-1778), the 19th ruler of the Kedah Sultanate, as the Balai Rong Seri, or Audience Hall. 

The Balai Besar, or the "Noble Hall", was built in 1735 and was used for royal gatherings, state assemblies and others. Thai motifs were heavily implemented in the construction as to the historical political connections of the past.
